THE HEALTHY CITIZEN
A number of schools are using the 7NP’s Managing my Behaviour framework which is based on Education Queensland citizenship model.
The 7NP’s Managing my Behaviour framework is a student empowerment strategy that assists students to make the link between their behaviour and the way they ‘have’ or ‘have not’ been attending to their personal healthcare needs. Recording the information on a document (see link below left) allows for the collection of information over a period of time so that patterns of behaviour may be observed.
The 7NP’s Managing my Behaviour approach also helps to prevent students from developing low self esteem based on negative self talk like “I am just a bad person” or “I am always naughty”. Instead students may perceive that some days are good days and this is usually when they have attended to all the 7NP’s simple messages. Learning to identify the causes for their ‘behavioural outbreaks’ may help them deflect them in the future.
The 7NP’s Managing my Behaviour proforma was modelled on the Education Queensland's Values Framework: What State Schools Value: Active and Informed Citizens for a Sustainable World.

• understands that the social, physical and economic environments can protect and harm the physical, emotional and mental health of individuals, families and communities and can take actions to promote the health and wellbeing and safety of themselves and others
• understands that active participation in physical activities contributes to a sense of wellbeing, community and social connectedness and can critically evaluate the social and cultural influences that shape behaviours, routines and perceptions of the body
