0-5 Early Years Curriculum
Playgroups, Childcare and the Important 0-5 YearsThere is a mounting body of evidence which suggests that physical and mental health, behavioural problems and success at school are all greatly influenced by a child’s experiences of care during the early 0-5 years. In 2007 the 7 Natural Physician's primary school program was adapted to meet the needs of the early 0-5 years. The 0-5 years program is called the 7NP's Simple Messages. The 7NP's Simple Messages program provides a range of colourful, musical, stimulating resources that were purposefully designed to engage all the senses. There are books, puzzles, a musical CD and words, bean bags, a 7NP's floor mat, posters and more. The 7NP's Simple Messages Daily Balancing Act poster provides the whole family with a simple healthcare tool to help manage the mental, emotional and physical ‘ups and downs’ of every day life. Rob and I have been visiting a number of playgroups and early years groups over the past 4 years. It has been an exciting time working alongside the child care teachers and leaders; meeting the parents, grandparents and carers and of course dancing, singing and playing with the children. Here is a story from one mum about how the 7NPs really helped her daughter. With the first read of the book Chloe was really interested and I found by the second reading of the book that she had actually recalled a lot of the information. When we came to the exercise page she would start running around the room and exercising. The 7NPs also really helped us with water. Chloe had had a few accidents with toilet training. She developed a mind set that if she didn’t drink she could avoid future accidents. We had talked to her about why water is good for you by using analogies like cleaning things around the house with water to keep them clean and how we need to do that for the inside of our body. I noticed that after using the doctors to back up the information that Sarah started to drink more water. The picture helped Chloe to relate more to the info and also to remember it and to do it. In the past if I had told her something about what we needed to do to be healthy she wouldn’t remember, but with the doctors she was able to. Jane
